Industry Involvement

In order to stay current and relevant to the industry, the MET program collaborates with the telecommunications and networking industry in several ways:

  • The MET has established an Advisory Board with representatives from all facets of the industry to provide advice on program content and to facilitate interaction with the industry.

  • The MET program has established an Architect-In-Residence and an Executive-In-Residence.

  • The MET program offers an Executive Development Program (EDP) short course directed at executives and senior managers. The EDP brings experts from industry, government and academia to discuss and exchange views on the crucial issues in the industry.

  • The themes developed in each EDP program form the basis for in depth case studies in the MET program the following year. EDP alumni and MET alumni are invited to special presentations where students present the results of their case studies.

  • The MET program formulates Projects with industry that are undertaken by teams of students during the summer.

  • A Certificate in Networking offers individuals working in the industry an opportunity to update their skills and competencies.

  • Entrance Scholarships

The Industry Advisory Board, conceived as an integral part of the MET program, was established in 1998 together with the MET program. The objective of the Master of Engineering in Telecommunications program is to prepare students for practice as telecommunications and networking professionals in the Canadian industry. The MET Industry Advisory Board, which consists of representatives from education, industry, business and government, plays a key role in the achievement of the MET objective.

  2. Participation in shaping the MET program content to ensure it meets the future requirements of the industry workforce.

  3. Networking and collaboration with other industry executives to promote cooperation for the benefit of Canada.

  4. Promotion of the MET program to the industry by articulating its benefits and supporting associated activities such as the Executive Development Program, Distinguished Speaker Series, Site Visits and Research Sponsorship.
