Visualizing the Networked Society in 2020: ICT Value Chains Revisited
May 12-14, 2009

University of Toronto
Objective
The Advisory Board
of the University of Toronto Information and Communications Forum (ICF) is pleased to announce the Executive Development Program (EDP)
for 2009. Since 2000 the EDP has been offered under the auspices of the Advisory Board of the Master of Engineering in Telecommunications
Program (MET). The MET curriculum has been incorporated into the M.Eng. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the MET Advisory
Board is now the base for the newly established ICF Advisory Board.
The ICF has the mandate of enabling collaboration between the University of Toronto and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
industry in the areas of education, research, and professional development. This broader mandate beyond telecom is required by the convergence
of computing and communications.
The inaugural ICF EDP re-examines ICT value chains with a view towards the Networked Society in 2020. Current ICT trends promise a future
where communications, computing, and sensing infrastructure is not only pervasive but also provides a rich set of enabling services that
support applications that meet the needs of society. Current players in the ICT industry will present their views on the opportunities in
this future environment. Through a series of workshops and exercises, we will explore competing models, debate alternative visions of this
networked future, and identify the best opportunities for the Canadian ICT industry.
The EDP Program leverages the strengths of the University and its Industry Partners by featuring lectures from leading academics, industry and government experts, and top executives. The program is also structured to provide ample opportunities to work and network with other participants from various areas of the industry.
