Alberto Leon-Garcia Director, MET Program
Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Professor Leon-Garcia is a Fellow of the IEEE "For contributions to multiplexing and switching of integrated services traffic". He received the 2006 Thomas Eadie Medal in Communications from the Royal Society of Canada for his work on the design of multigeneration networks. Professor Leon-Garcia holds the Jeffrey Skoll Chair in Computer Networks and Innovation. He was founder and CTO of AcceLight Networks in Ottawa which developed leading edge optical switching equipment. He holds several patents and has published research extensively in the areas of switch architecture and traffic management. Professor Leon-Garcia is recognized as an innovator in networking education. In 1986, he led the development of the University of Toronto - Northern Telecom Network Engineering Program. He has also led the development of the Master of Engineering in Telecommunications program, and the communications and networking options in the undergraduate computer engineering program. He is author of the leading textbooks: Probability and Random Processes for Electrical Engineering, and Communication Networks: Fundamental Concepts and Key Architecture.

Baochun Li University of Toronto
Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Professor Li received his B.Eng. degree in 1995 from Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, China, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1997 and 2000 from the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since 2000, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He holds the Nortel Networks Junior Chair in Network Architecture and Services since October 2003, and the Bell University Laboratories Endowed Chair in Computer Engineering since August 2005. In 2000, he was the recipient of the IEEE Communications Society Leonard G. Abraham Award in the Field of Communications Systems. His research interests include application-level Quality of Service provisioning, wireless and overlay networks. He is a senior member of IEEE, and a member of ACM. Joseph D'Cruz Strategic Management
Director, Global Executive MBA, Rotman School of Management
Professor D'Cruz is widely regarded as one of Canada's leading experts on international competitiveness. He teaches Business Strategy and International Business at the Rotman School of Management. He has also taught at IMD International in Lausanne, Switzerland. He consults widely with multinational corporations in the areas of global strategy and international operations. He is the co-author (with Professor Rugman) of the Kodak series of studies on Canada's international competitiveness and winner of the Touche Ross Award for the best article in the Business Quarterly entitled "The Globalization of Manufacturing" (with Professor Fleck). He has lectured extensively in Europe, the Asia Pacific region and the U.S. on the subjects of international business strategy and globalization. He has advised the federal government on ways to enhance the international competitiveness of Canadian industry and has served on the Steering Committee of the Prosperity Initiative. His current research is focused on the globalization of the telecommunications industry, the benchmarking of international competitiveness, and strategies for flagship firms.

Yuk-wha Li Director, Executive Development Program

Since 1999, Yuk-wha Li has lectured in the Master Degree of Engineering in Telecommunications Program and also in Telecommunications Management Certificate Program, both at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the University of Toronto . Her lectures and researches focus on Telecom Industry Trends, Dynamics and Analysis with emphasis on impact of Telecom/ IT/ Internet/Cable Convergence. She was on MET Advisory Board representing Nortel from 2001-2003. After 25 years with Nortel, Yuk-wha Li had decided to leave the company in March 2005, where she was Director, Market Intelligence & Strategy working out of its Corporate Headquarters in Brampton , Ontario . She was responsible for conducting global telecom market and competitive analysis, with emphasis on the Asia Pacific market region. She was also involved in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities for emerging business segments as well. Born in Shanghai and brought up in Hong Kong , Yuk-wha received her bachelor degree in Computer Science from University of Minnesota in Minneapolis . She obtained her Master of Mathematics degree in Computer Science at University of Waterloo. She joined the technology division of Nortel Networks (Bell Northern Research) as a Member of Scientific Staff in 1980 and stayed in the R&D functions till 1988. Since 1988, she had held various management positions in product management, marketing, business development and strategic planning. Twice in her career, Yuk-wha had stationed in Asia Pacific. She returned to Canada in 1996 and assumed different strategic planning functions in Headquarters.

Jorg Liebeherr University of Toronto
Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Professor Liebeherr is a Professor and Nortel Chair of Network Architecture and Service in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Toronto. He received the PhD degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1991. He had a Postdoc position at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1992. From 1992 until 2005 he was with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia. In 1997-1998 he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Polytechnic University (Brooklyn Poly). He has served on editorial boards of several journals in computer networking, including IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Network, and ACM/Springer Multimedia Systems. He was Editor in Chief of IEEE Network from 1999 to 2000. He was elected Member-at-Large of the IEEE Communications Society Board of Governors in 2003-2005, and chair of the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on COmputer Communications (TCCC) in 2004-2005. He received an NSF Research Initiation Award in 1993, a UVa Teaching and Technology fellowship in 1995, and an NSF CAREER Award in 1996. He was a Virginia Engineering Foundation (VEF) Faculty Fellow from 2002-2005. He received the TCCC Outstanding Service Award from the IEEE Communications Society in 2006. He co-authored a paper that received the Best Student Paper Award at ACM Sigmetrics 2005. He is a co-author of the textbook Mastering Networks: An Internet Lab Manual, published by Addison-Wesley in 2004. His current research interests are networks with service guarantees and self-organizing peer networks.

Elvino S. Sousa University of Toronto
Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Elvino S. Sousa holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is the Bell University Lab Chair in Computer Engineering with a mandate in wireless communications. He is the Director of the Wireless Lab, which has undertaken research in spread spectrum systems and CDMA wireless systems for the past 16 years. His current research interests are in the areas of high-speed CDMA systems, smart antenna systems, software radio, ad-hoc networks, and wireless system concepts for 4th generation networks. Professor Sousa has been a consultant to industry and governments in the area of wireless systems internationally. He was the Technical Program Chair for PIMRC 95, Vice-Technical Program Chair for Globecom '99, Chair of the IEEE Technical committee on Personal Communications, and has been involved in the technical program committee of numerous international conferences. He has spent sabbatical leaves at Qualcomm and Sony CSL/ATL, where he was the holder of the Sony sabbatical chair.

Sharokh Valaee University of Toronto
Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Professor Valaee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto and holds the Nortel Institute Junior Chair of Communication Networks. He is the Director of the Wireless and Internet Research Laboratory (WIRLab) at the University of Toronto. WIRLab is a well-equipped research laboratory that focuses on resource management in wireless and wired networks, with the emphasis on 4G, mesh, vehicular ad hoc, and sensor networks. Dr. Valaee is the Co-Chair for Wireless Communications Symposium of IEEE GLOBECOM 2006, the Editor for IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine special issue on Toward Seamless Internetworking of Wireless LAN and Cellular Networks, and the Editor of Wiley Journal on Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing special issue on Radio Link and Transport Protocol Engineering for Future Generation Wireless Mobile Data Networks. From 1994 to 1995, he was a Research Associate at INRS Telecom, University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada. From 1996 to 2001, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tarbiat Modares University, and in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Sharif University of Technology. During this period, he was also a consultant and project manager on multiple projects in ATM Networks at Iran Telecommunications Research Center, and several private companies.

Chun Cheng Industry Liaison Manager
Prior to joining the MET program in 2003, Chun was the Director of Channel Management at Nortel China where he launched a nationwide Channel Sales program. Born in China and educated in Hong Kong and Canada, Chun received his bachelor degree of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1976. He is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and has extensive knowledge and experience in telecom operations, network engineering, sales and marketing. Upon graduation, he joined the Engineering Department of Bell Canada in Toronto, responsible for the network planning and equipment engineering for Area Code 416. In 1990, he joined the Systems Engineering Division of Nortel Networks providing network design services to customers in Latin America. From 1993 to 2002, Chun held a variety of sales and marketing positions with Nortel Asia responsible for business development in Asia Pacific.
